Refuge

After reading the first part of the book I couldn’t believe all that Terry had to go through with her mother. I could never imagine being in a situation like this not once, but twice if I was her. I thought that there were alot of powerful quotes in this book so far exspecially when Terry’s mom say “Do you know how strange it is to know your days are limited,” (pg.28). I could never imagine being as young as she is and saying that life is almost over for me. It’s really scary to think about.  I also thought this quote also on pg 28 was extremely powerful when Terry’s mom says, “No one has ever offered to help me before.” This makes you think how we take people for granted thinking that it will never happen to them.

A piece from my writing

My father always tells everyone the story of when I was a kid and how I used to kiss the mirror because he thinks that i’m in love with myself. My father loves joking around with me and him and my sisters get a big kick out of this story because they know it embarrasses me. I don’t know if this is all true, but I guess when I was a kid I used to kiss the mirror and I did it at my grandfathers house one time and I denied doing it. So my grandfather got a measuring tape and went in the bathroom and measured the lips. Then measured all three of our lips and because I have the biggest lips they knew it was me. Now my father likes to tell people this story about me because he thinks it’s funny.

Running in the Family

I was trying to find a quote in the book that I could say somehting interesting about, but I thought that the title has been the most interesting thing that I could come up with to relate to the book. I’m not really sure what the title means and if he will explain that he has these qualities that the people in his family do. I’m waiting to find out if maybe he was a heavy drinker like his father or a loving man like his grandfather or if he was like his grandmother who basically didn’t care what others thought about her. I want to find out more about him and the type of person he is.

Running in the Family

So far i think the book is very confusing. I feel that the book jumps around alot to different parts in his life and it’s hard to keep track of what’s going on. I do find this book more interesting from the last and I think that Ondaatje does a good job with the way he talks about all his family members. I think his tone is very relaxing and I like the way he is so descriptive. The first part of the book has been good, but I’m hoping it is going to get better.

THE LIARS CLUB

This was definitely and intersting book. I’ve never read a book where an author has been so honest and blunt and very descriptive. Some times It was to much description for me to handle. She has definitely had a crazy life. I like how in the first part of the book it explains on how her and her father is so close and even up until the end I think that she has stayed loyal to her father no matter what he did. I think the story was very twisted though because of the way that she talked about getting rapped and the way her mother was and then at the end where the father beat up hector. But she has been through alot at such a young age. To much for a chid.

An Interesting that happened to me this week!

For about a month now my boyfriend and I have been looking for an apartment since we have to be out or mine by the first of march. We were getting nervous since it’s been three weeks and we haven’t found anything until tuesday. We found a two family house in Rotterdam and it is very affordable. We have our own backyard, two bedrooms a garage and a driveway. No more trying to find a place to park on the street I live on now. This was exciting news for us since everything that we’ve been looking at was very expensive and very small for the price that they wanted. So when we found this place we were so excited and we can’t wait until next week to move in on March 1st.

My Passions

I used to have tons of different passions. Sports being a major passion in my life. I played every sport that I could. Basketball, soccer and softball. In highschool I had all the time in the world to practice these sports, but as I got older these things weren’t as important any more because of the way my life style was changing. I was growing up and working became my new passsion. I work two jobs and I love to work. I love making money and being independent. I only rely on myself when I need things and that makes me feel good about myself. That feeling of knowing that I can make it on my own is a great feeling.

Searching for others with my Interest

When asked to find other bloggers that had some of my same interest I thought it was very hard and annoying. When I googled it I would get a bunch of advertisements and at one point I some how came to a porn site. Yeah not something I needed to see. I’m still looking though to see if I can find some interesting blogs!

Growing up Game

I know that this was due on jan 31, but its better late than never right? I hope anyways. My comments to the story are that I remember thinking how much I hated people that hunt because I thought it was cruel to animals to kill them. Not realizing that Im a meat eater and people were killing them and I would eat meat. So I learned to deal with that aspect. After reading the story I never really thought about what it was like to actually see a doe killed and then watch it lay thier dead right in front of you. The way they describe everything in detail in the story is upsetting a little. For the first time this year I saw a dead deer. My sisters boyfriend killed a deer and he showed it to me and I felt so bad for the poor thing and then my boyfriend made me try deer meat and I actually liked it. I felt horrible.
